Frequently Asked Questions
This is one of the questions we would address in the first session and the answer very much depends on what you are hoping to achieve in therapy. Most people start with once-weekly sessions. This can be either open-ended or twelve sessions of time-limited brief focused therapy.
During the course of open-ended therapy you may feel that you would like to increase the frequency to twice or thrice-weekly sessions. If this were to happen we would take time to reflect on whether this increase in frequency would be in your best interests before undertaking the extra commitment.
When can I have my session?
This depends on my availability when you make contact. At that time I will be able to tell you what appointment times are available. I work Monday to Friday and my appointment times are from 7am to 7pm. Once we engage in the therapy we would meet for fifty minutes each week, on the same day of the week and at the same time until the end of the therapy. This will be your time.
How long does the therapy last?
This very much depends on what brings you to seek therapy and what you hope to achieve. As the ongoing therapy progresses you my find yourself wanting to explore other areas of your life in addition to those which brought you to therapy. This is something we would keep in mind during the course of the work.
However, in both open-ended and time-limited work endings are an important part of the therapy. When the time comes we would decide together an end date to work towards. As a very rough guide, after the first few months of open-ended work I would suggest a minimum of four weeks notice of ending. As the therapy progresses into longer term work we may decide together on an extended notice period to give time to reflect upon and process the meaning of the ending.
Do you treat addictions?
I am not an addictions or eating disorders therapist. However, I am able to refer you to a suitably qualified specialist therapist or rehabilitation unit if this is what you are seeking.
If you have been in recovery from an addiction for more than a year I would be able to see you. The psychoanalytic psychotherapy we would engage in would be an adjunct to your recovery program.
How much does it cost?
The initial consultation fee is £90 and during this first session we would agree the rate for ongoing work. I am able to offer a reduced rate for twice and thrice-weekly sessions and I have a few places available for people on low income.
How do I arrange an initial consultation?
My confidential line telephone number is 0786 759 1840. Please leave a message on my voicemail as to when it would be most convenient to return your call.
